RFEF (Spanish FA) President Rafael Louzon has supported Real Madrid's Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to organize the FIFA World Cup final of 2030.
Spain has been confirmed as joint hosts for the tournament, next to Portugal and Morocco, with reflection of the Trio-Host model of 2026 in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Details of the final schedule for the competition still have to be confirmed with all eyes on where the final will be performed.
Eight stadiums have been put forward in Spain, including the Bernabeu, next to the redeveloped Spotify Camp Nou by Barcelona.
The iconic stadium has had setbacks in construction work with Barcelona in recent months, not sure if they can play home games there before the end of the current season.
David Escude, councilor for sport in the Barcelona city council, has raised the claim of the Barcelona stadium, but that has not been universally agreed.
While the conversations where the final will be held – with the potential for Morocco that brings a package to the front that is accepted by FIFA – the RFEF has offered an update.
The new President Rafael Louzan dropped a hint that Madrid prefers to Barcelona in this phase of negotiations.
“I want the final to be played in the Bernabeu because it is the stadium in the capital of the country and it also has the greatest capacity,” he told an interview with El Cafelito, via Mundo Deportivo.
Although it is corrected about his capacity number, with the new Spotify Camp Nou, which has the larger number of seats as soon as the renovations are completed (105,000 compared to nearly 85,000 at the Bernabeu), Louzan repeated his opinion about the case.
Louzan wants to include stadiums in all regions of Spain and he confirmed that the developing Estadio Nou Mestalla of Valencia could be on the list if it is sufficient before 2026.
