Barcelona saw their money boost from Porto's transfer purchase from Nico Gonzalez brought back by half when Manchester City comes close.
Gonzalez has emerged as an option for Pep Guardiola in the last days of the winter transfer window while the Catalan coach is looking for reinforcements.
With City now accompanied by Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last 16 play -offs, plus a demanding Premier League and FA Cup campaign, he needs more players.
Guardiola has already brought in the Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov, plus Voorar Marmoush for the region of € 150 million, and midfield is now the next focus.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that contact has already been made with Porto about Gonzalez and the ex-LA Masia-Man has a release clause of € 60 million in his contract.
However, every sale between Porto and the Premier League holders will not be easy, because Barcelona has a 40% sale on the 23-year-old, which adds to € 24 million when the clause is activated.
At this stage it is rumor that City offers less than the clause, to try to seduce Porto into a rapid sale – which would reduce how much cash is sent to Barcelona.
According to reports from the Portuguese Outlet record, Porto also assesses their own options and can look at the deal by Barcelona.
Part of the agreement to sign Gonzalez in 2023 included Barcelona while retaining that 40% plus a drill-back clause on the Galician.
However, Porto also has the right to buy 20% more of their rights in the midfielder for € 6 million, to cut Barcelona's ownership in two, if that illuminates the conversations with City.
Porto will now decide whether the activation of that option is financially useful, as part of their negotiations with the city, where Barcelona is unable to influence their decision while the clock on the transfer star closes on 3 February.
