Ben Chilwell closes a move to Crystal Palace while offering to end his nightmare in Chelsea.
The left back arrived in 2020 at the Blues from Leicester, in a deal with a value of around £ 45 million. But a series of injuries has derailed his promising career and see him losing his place in the team of England.
The arrival of Enzo Maresca near Chelsea Boss indicated the end of his blues career, with Chilwell's only appearance this season a 45-minute cameo against Barrow in the Carabao Cup. The only other time he was in a MatchDay team was in the same competition in defeat against Newcastle.
Otherwise he is completely ignored and he was even omitted from the team presented at UEFA for the Europa Conference League. Maresca revealed in January that he insisted on Chilwell to leave Stamford Bridge.
That now seems to happen, where several sources are described that Palace is insisting to put it on loan. Chelsea Chiefs have given their approval for the deal, with the final details that are now being poured out for Monday's deadline.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner has identified that the 28-year-old has a prime target because he wants to bring more depth to the left. Tyrick Mitchell is currently the only natural player for that position in the Palace team.
Maresca delivered a brutal assessment of Chilwell's future at the beginning of January. He said: “Because players want to play more, so there are probably opportunities for them to leave. But Ben has been great. I have to say that, he has been great.
“Very professional, works hard. I feel shame because of that situation, but in terms of behavior he has been very good. First of all because it is my choice. And because I can see Malo Gusto, Reece James or Marc Cucurella other jobs During the game.
“I think Chilwell is a top full-back that puts up and down and in the past gets the chance to win titles and to be in the national team. But I have trouble seeing Ben doing different types of things.”
The arrival of Chilwell will delight Glasner, which Chelsea saw in the window earlier of Trevoh Chalobah. In anticipation of this weekend with Manchester United, the Austrian made his side look through in the last days of the window.
“We have planned two signing sessions,” he said. “We have one, with Romain Esse, and we are still working on the second. Monday the window closes and I am pretty sure that we will get this deal.
“It started this week that we said we had to look [in defence] Because we have five positions in the center and we only have three [players] At the moment. We look. If there is a good opportunity, we will try to do it. If not, we trust all our players as we always do. Let's ideally say two signing sessions, but at least one. '
