Ex-Manchester United star Lee Sharpe has never seen anything like the Marcus Rashford Saga during his time in the club.
Rashford is about to have a loan switch to Aston Villa after being frozen by Baas Ruben Amorim, with both parties that have referred to a gap in recent weeks. Sharpe, who witnessed controversial outputs of Sir Alex Ferguson, believes that today's intense media control plays a role in strengthening such disputes.
Asked if he could think that one of his former teammates experienced a similar exit from Old Trafford, the 53-year-old told William Hill: “I can't really do it. In my time Paul Ince left and was shocked to be late Sir Alex, but there was no hostility or falls out.
“Bryan Robson, Mark Hughes all left and there was no problem and were all friendly. The same with Andrei Kankelskis, so there wasn't something like that.
“The media are now different, then we have kept things in the house. But now you have seen a few cases that players speak to the media.”
Sharpe believes that the current situation of Rashford comes from a combination of pressure on and outside the field in recent years, without pointing fingers to someone in particular. He is optimistic that the spark of one of Europe's previously most exciting prospects can still be ruled, and hopes that his future will remain tied to his boys' club in the long term.
“I don't know Marcus, but from what I have heard over the years, he is a nice guy,” Sharpe added. “He is not very vocal, he is quiet and is considered what he does and you look at the field where he did it is remarkable with the food banks for children and people in need.
“It seems that he has had a lot on his shoulders and this may have taken his toll. But he came on stage and performed brilliant for Manchester United. His goals [record] Against the large sides is excellent.
“There is no doubt that he is super talented as he has shown and also for England in the past. I hope we see Rashford return to his best at Manchester United and it will be a shame to separate with people who present this current Remember, when it should be about his brilliant versions and goals he has scored. “
The Athletic Report Villas Deal to take Rashford on loan until the end of the season, will probably be an option to buy, which could pay to Sharpe's wish of his good at United in United. He has left for his current contract in the summer for three years.
