Barcelona miss out on Marcus Rashford signing

Barcelona hoped to sign one player before the winter transfer window closes on Monday, and the one who was selected was Marcus Rashford. The conversations took place earlier this week with Manchester United, although their pursuit is ultimately not successful.

Because of their well-documented financial misery, Barcelona could only take one step for Rashford if they succeeded in getting a first team players out of their books because Man United demanded that the full salary of the attacker would be treated as part of the loan agreement. Ansu Fati was the player who was designated for an exit by the Catalans, but even though he was told that he is not calculated by Hansi Flick, he chose to stay.

As such, Barcelona has not been able to continue their efforts, and now Rashford will stay in the Premier League – but not with Man United. Aston Villa registered their interest a few days ago and it has now been reported by Fabrizio Romano that an agreement has been reached.

Interesting, it is noted that Aston Villa will not pay the entire salary of Rashford, but only 70% – although this would still have been too much for Barcelona. Man United has also included a purchase option in the agreement, worth a reported £ 40 million.

Barcelona, and Flick in particular, were very interested in bringing Rashford for the second half of the season, but that is not the case. It means that, apart from any late movement, no new additions will be made to the first team team, and this can be a disadvantage in the aim of the Catalan giants to win La Liga and/or the Champions League at the end of May. For now it is still to be seen whether it has a major impact or not.
