‘Better things will come’ for Man Utd, insists Amorim

Ruben Amorim insisted that “better things will come” after Manchester United had contracted a 2-0 home defeat against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored both goals in the second half for Palace and delivered in the 64th minute up close in the 64th minute before switching his second in the dying phases.

It is the fifth defeat Amorim supervised seven top matches at Old Trafford, while it is the seventh loss that United has suffered in 13 home competitions, their most in this phase of a competition campaign since 1893-94.

Since the beginning of last season, only Wolves (16) have lost more Premier League matches than the 13 of United.

The defeat saw Palace the Red Devils jump into the table, leaving them in 13th place and five points of the upper half.

“The result is really bad. The performance was a little better than the latest games,” Amorim told Sky Sports.

“We had two goals that we could avoid, and the injury to Lisandro Martinez [who was stretchered off] was difficult for the team.

“It is normal for the fans to feel negative, it is a difficult season for them, but football can change at certain times. I will prepare for the next game and move forward. Better things will come.”

United did not score in the first half of 18 games in the competition this period, more than any other team, while it is the ninth time that they have not hit the back of the net.

They had 17 chances that Palace's 11 improved, but only tested Dean Henderson twice. They also created only 1.31 expected goals (XG) compared to Palace's 2.61.

Amorim chose not to start a recognized striker on Sunday, so Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were brought into a double replacement in a double substitution in the 70th minute, and he continued to go over missed opportunities at the end of the game.

“During the game I felt that the team was doing a few things well,” Amorim told BBC match of the day.

“We take a few things from the execution, but not the result. It is a difficult season at the moment, the players are trying to improve different things. We have to continue.

“We had more possession, more connections, we created opportunities, but we couldn't score and that was the difference today.

'I didn't feel that [there was extra pressure playing at home]But it's hard to play here because we want to please our fans. This season will be that way, I said it from the first day. “
