Conte left with ‘bitter taste’ as Napoli pegged back by Roma

Antonio Conte was left with a “bitter taste in the mouth” after his team had admitted a late equalizer in Roma and missed the chance to release in the Scudetto race.

Napoli had the chance to make five points clear at the top of the Serie A, after Inter second place could only manage a 1-1 draw against Rivals AC Milan earlier on Sunday.

Leonardo Spinazzola gave them an early lead, but Roma's Angelino Volleyed Home in a busy penalty area to secure a point for the Giallorossi.

“A trekking of Roma is not a bad result, while Roma as a crazy after scoring a late equalizer against us also means that we are doing something important here,” Conte said a press conference.

“Roma had won seven in a row in the Stadio Olimpico, which is always a difficult place to play.

“We inevitably leave here with a bitter taste in our mouth because we were in the lead until the 92nd minute without really being under pressure.”

Since the beginning of 2020-21, Roma has scored more goals from the 90th minute than any other team in the Serie A (28).

Despite the frustration to see two points sliding through their fingers, Napoli's deserved seven points of tough matches against Atalanta, Juventus and Roma Lof from Conte.

“These things happen, it is part of the growth process for these guys. It is another point in the closet and we will continue, happy with what we do and the gradual improvement,” he said.

“We must learn that the details make the difference and we have to work to learn from it.”

The former Chelsea and Tottenham Boss added that the transfer window had created instability, with Napoli Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sold to Paris Saint-Germain last month.

“I have seen that the transfer of deadline has been moved to 3 February, it will be longer instead of shorter and it is an absurd period for coaches,” he said.

“It creates instability and that is not something we want.”
