The transfer window can be closed in less than 24 hours, but Manchester United still has time to ensure a number of important things.
Ruben Amorim has not been able to inspire an immediate change since the takeover of Erik ten Hag in November, United fell to a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday, giving them the 13th in the competition with 12 fewer points Then the corresponding phase last season.
“That is with many people in the club,” Amorim said when he was asked about transfers after the defeat against Oliver Glasner's palace. “I concentrate on the next game.”
United has already received a handful of deals, with Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu who arrive in the last week of the window and Diego Leon will come along to participate in the summer. There have also been some controversial outputs, including loan deviations for Marcus Rashford and Antony.
One thing is certain, and that is the need for at least one arrival if United should call this window a success. Mirror Football looked at what the dream could be for Amorim's side.
The priority for now must be a replacement for Rashford. Despite the attacker who has not been playing since mid -December, his exit helped to free up a wage budget that many will hope that it is a new attacking threat to support the underwarm duo Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
On Sunday evening it seemed that Mathys Tel would not be that man. The latest reports suggest that conversations seemed to have been demolished between United and Bayern, with a Bundesliga residence, the most likely result is to look like.
A man who is linked to and off is Christopher Nunku. The Chelsea Forward seems relatively well suited to occupy one of those two no. 10 places under Amorim, but negotiating with the blues may not be the easiest task.
Leon Bailey has also been associated with, but a man who only expects to make the move is Matheus Cunha. The Wolves star has signed a new contract this weekend and – despite the optimism of the former man Utd striker Michael Owen – looks destined to stay.
Fans may be satisfied with more a stopgap signature if this means that it is closer to a summer agreement for Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker has already shown that he can thrive under Amorim, but a deal deal looks like a pipe dream.
“I'm not going to sign anyone in January – but I don't know what I'm going to do in the summer,” Amorim said when moving to Old Trafford. The head coach gave his former club guarantees, but nothing would reassure the Fanbase of United more than mumbling from a summer agreement, even if it is a bit quieter tonight.
Of course, a successful deadline day would also require Alejandro Garnacho to stay. The Argentinian attracted a lot of interest after indications that United was open to offers for the right price, but Amorim's use of the young person makes clear how the boss feels.
That does not mean that there will be no output before the window closes. The arrival of Dorgu means that Tyrell Malacia is free to leave on loan, but the Dutchman will have to close a deal quickly after an Benfica switch seemed to collapse at the weekend.
