Burnley has made the former Tottenham Academy Starlet Marcus Edwards on loan from Sporting Lisbon.
Claret's head coach Scott Parker knew Edwards from his time as a Spurs player, and the connection was enough to conquer the deal for the hopeful championship promotion.
Immediately after signing, Edwards told the club website: “It feels great. Burnley is like a Premier League club. I am really happy to be here.
“I know Scott from my time at Spurs. I know how he is. He is ambitious, he is driven. We had a good relationship then, so when I knew he wanted me to come, it was enough for me.
“By knowing how he is and how he is and the fact that Burnley is in general such a big club. It was logical.
“The most important thing is now to be promoted to the Premier League. I come here to try to get myself in the team. I hope we can get over the line this season and I hope that Burnley fans will like to see me play. “
Edwards was born in Enfield and performed at the Academy System of Spurs as an eight-year-old and made his senior debut for Tottenham in an EFL Cup-equal game nine years ago.
Edwards was previously compared in his career with Lionel Messi by former Tottenham -Baas Mauricio Pochettino, who was a big fan of the English Youth International.
Back that he was in the hotseat, Pochettino said about Edwards: “His qualities, it's just, his body and the way he plays, you remember a bit from the start of Messi.”
More recently, Edwards has attracted attention to Sporting Lisbon in Europe, including his old club. He was even supported for the senior team of England by Ruben Amorim, now the head coach of Manchester United.
“Marcus is very talented. He is one of the best players to play between the lines. He took a moment to adapt to the Portuguese lifestyle, “Amorim said earlier.
“He has all the talent and he can get much better and go to the English national team. He has to concentrate more on training and everything around it.
“Football is not only the matches, it's all in between. I trust him a lot. He has a lot to leave, but I think we have done excellent things to sign him. “
