Paul Merson has questioned Manchester City for Nico Gonzalez, and claims that Pep Guardiola's side 'in panic'.
The ruling Prime Minister League champions have heavily published this window – Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vorror Reis all arrive at major costs. The expenditure of City Looks Set will take place on the Deadline Day with a £ 50 million swoop for Porto -star Nico Gonzalez.
The Spaniard must go to the Etihad Stadium and arrives at a perfect moment, where Rodri still recovers from his serious knee injury. But Merson is not entirely convinced and believes that Gonzalez will just become an expensive team filler.
On Sky Sports he said: “I didn't see this boy playing, so don't know too much about him. But they need players in midfield. Many people say it's not just Rodri. It's just Rodri.
“Rodri sees danger, Rodri is disciplined, Rodri stays in the middle, he comes ahead and leans back and also protects the back line, and he passes the ball through the line very quickly.
“I love Kovacic, but he will continue and drip with the ball and people will end up completely out of position. Him and Bernardo Silva are just ruined in the last 30 minutes in Arsenal. If you take the 30 minutes and the first 20 away, city was Very good at Arsenal.
“It was a good version. But that takes the first 20 minutes away when they could have been out of the game, and the last 30 minutes – so it's not much in between.
“The problem is that Gonzalez comes in for £ 50 million, as soon as Rodri's fit that is. I don't think he plays. Unless you play them together and I don't think you have to do it. This is the problem with wages and if you players Buy, you forget that this guy is sitting on the couch with big money by the start of the following season.
“You then look at Mcatee with a brilliant young future and they will have to sell him for the Fair Play rules. It is a domino effect. If they buy Gonzalez, they have to panic poorly to get into the top four. “
Gonzalez, a Spanish international under 21, has shown Porto this season. He scored seven goals and gave another six assists in all competitions for the Portuguese giants.
But Merson's concern could possibly flourish instead of later after City had dropped a hint about Rodri's comeback. Despite its long-term injury, the midfielder will be registered for the Knockout rounds of the Champions League.
