Incredible Man City record is ended in emphatic fashion as Pep Guardiola’s side are thrashed 4-0 by Tottenham

An incredible Manchester City record has come to an end after their loss to Tottenham.

City were defeated 4-0 in their own backyard, with James Maddison scoring a quick brace in the first half.

Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson then scored either side of the second half to condemn City to a rare home loss.

The champions were on a 52-match unbeaten run at the Etihad prior to Saturday's shock defeat.

Their last home defeat in the Premier League was against Brentford in November 2022, when Ivan Toney scored a brace, including a 98th-minute winner.

It is also City's biggest home defeat since moving from Maine Road in 2003, and the worst Guardiola has ever suffered.

Guardiola admitted afterwards that his team is 'defensively vulnerable' and challenged his players to bounce back from yet another setback.

'At the moment we are defensively vulnerable. We started very well as usual, but we couldn't score and then we gave in. Then we conceded something, which is difficult for our emotions at the moment,” the City boss told the BBC.

'In eight years we have never experienced a situation like this. Now we have to live it and break it by winning the next games, especially the next one. Right now we see things one way, maybe in a few weeks we'll see things differently.”

On his players' problems, Guardiola added: 'Of course. We are happy when we win and worried when we don't win. It's normal. There would be a problem if they weren't concerned, and neither was I.

'We are not used to this situation, but life is like that. Sometimes it happens and we have to accept it. It is what it is now and we will stand up and do it.”

City will look to end their poor run of form and return to winning ways when they host Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday.
