Joelinton is confronted with a race by time to be suitable for Newcastle's Carabao Cup semi-final second stage against Arsenal, Magpies boss Eddie Howe has unveiled.
The Brazilian was depicted with a knee brace after he had injured his right leg during the 2-1 home defeat on Saturday by Fulham.
The Magpies welcome Arsenal at St James' Park on Wednesday evening, with a 2-0 advantage of the first stage last month, because they offer to end their 56-year-old big trophy-dried.
Prior to the fixture, Howe revealed that Joelinton is a doubt for the game, but he insisted that his side in midfield is considerable strength.
'Joey had a knee brace as a precaution. I would say he is doubt, but we will give him every chance to be fit, “he said.
“Our midfield, we have a good power in depth – Sean Longstaff, Lewis Miley and Joe Willock – they all bring something.”
After having achieved a rare victory in North Londs earlier this month, Newcastle seemed to reach their second competition cup final in three years, but recent defeats at home by Bournemouth and Fulham gave the Gunners hope for a turnaround.
The side of Mikel Arteta also has a good form of shape since that loss and enter the luminaire that is stimulated by their emphatic 5-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
Howe added: 'My message is, we are halfway through the draw. The game is still alive against every opposition.
'We have to approach the game in a really positive and aggressive way, try to be ourselves, there will be no deviation from that. We are in a good position and have to make optimum use of every occasion.
I think [our success] Has been a combination of us and the crowd. I think we have become a really powerful team together and that is what we need in this game.
'We have to involve all our supporters in our energy and body language, we have to make this a formidable environment for our opponent. It is our duty to do that. '
