Referees in Spain could strike following Real Madrid pressure

The consequences of the referee Controverse in which Real Madrid is involved will take place, after a Carlos Romero challenge on Kylian Mbappe was not met with a red card during their defeat against Espanyol. Most agree that the challenge justified a dismissal, but the Real Madrid response to the incident has won little sympathy.

On Monday evening, Real Madrid sent an open letter to RFEF President Rafael Louzan and asked to be fired for referees because of the 'corrupt system' and claimed that it cost them trophies. The RFEF called the accusations regrettable, while La Liga President Javier Tebas pointed out that it was Los Blancos who recently stood in the way of condemning the reform of the referee.

However, it is a high pressure, and according to MD, the Referee Committee (CTA) held an emergency meeting on Monday. President Luis Medina Cantalejo expressed his frustration about part of the decision -making in both La Liga and Segunda in the past week. Various referees, including those of the Espanyol-Real Madrid collision and the VAR, are confronted with time in the 'fridge', which means that they will be dropped in the coming weeks.

There will also be a second meeting in Madrid this week, because the CTA attempt to restore the criteria, resolve doubts and clean up confusion areas. It will concern teams, referees and La Liga. In the meantime, Cadena Cope reports that some referees are in favor of a strike in the midst of the recent pressure exerted on them. There is recognition that it is a difficult act to perform, because it requires that they are all involved, but the idea has been raised in the CTA, because frustration grows with their treatment.

In a packed calendar, industrial action La Liga would stop and cause chaos for the clubs. Although frustration with decisions is understandable, the pressure and attention that are set on referees has an impact. There is a growing number of incidents in lower departments of referees attacked by amateurs, players and parents for decisions, where some are attacked.
