Tottenham fans taunt Pep Guardiola with ‘sacked in the morning’ chants

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side were humiliated at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, losing 4-0 to Tottenham.

The visitors handed City their biggest defeat since moving from Maine Road in 2003 and the worst Guardiola has ever suffered.

Saturday night's loss was also the champion's fifth consecutive match in all competitions – the longest streak in Guardiola's 17-year managerial career – just days after he extended his contract until 2026.

On an evening full of firsts, the Spaniard may never have heard the chant of “You'll be fired tomorrow morning!” heard. focused on him until tonight as Spurs fans enjoyed the performance of their side, who moved up to sixth in the table.

The taunting song sounded at the Etihad before many City supporters left the stadium before the final whistle. Later, Brennan Johnson's dagger in the 93rd minute almost cleared the ground of the home fans.

James Maddison opened the scoring in the 13th minute, before adding another seven minutes later, scoring twice from close range.

In the 52nd minute, Pedro Porro neutralized any threat of a City rebound in the second half by converting a sublime cross to Dominic Solanke's back post.

In injury time, Timo Werner pounced on a wayward pass before rolling the ball to Johnson, who tapped it in from a yard out to put the nail in the coffin for the hosts.

Guardiola partly attributed his side's disappointing performance to the late return of his players after the recent international break.

However, he realized they will have to recover quickly for their Champions League match against Feyernoord on Tuesday night, which precedes a blockbuster match in the competition with table-toppers Liverpool next Sunday.

'I have to look at the situation. The players returned late [from internationals]. There were a few reasons why we couldn't be consistent,” he told Sky Sports.

'Now the balance is not at the right time. But it happened. We have to do it, talk about it and on Tuesday against Feyenoord we have the chance to try.

'Before the match I didn't know what would happen today. So I don't know what will happen at Anfield.

'Everyone knows that the situation is new for us. We had more trouble without the ball. I don't know how many chances we created. Our game was there.”
