Match report
Only three days after an extensive 2-5 victory over Brest, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to the west again, this time to Le Mans for the Coupe de Framce round of 16 meetings. Against the national 1 side, Luis Enrique chose to fill in a central defensive combination of Willian Pacho and Lucas Beraldo for goalkeeper Matvey Safonov. Yoram Zagué started right back, with Lucas Hernandez on the other side. In midfield, Fabian Ruiz took over the bracelet from the captain and stood in line to support Sundy Mayulu and Lee Kang-in, while Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia occupied the Vleugels, supported by Gonçalo Ramos in the center.
The match started with a sold-out Stade Marie-Marvingt. Despite a difficult pitch, the Capital Club immediately tried to settle in their game. But Le Mans showed that they would jump at the least chance, as can be seen in Théo Eyoum's first shot of the competition (7 '). Ten minutes later, Lee Kang-In hit back with a left shot from the edge of the criminal area, but did not succeed in getting into the goal (17 '). The pressure of the Parisians in the opposition continued to set up half, and their dominance was rewarded when Gonçalo Ramos collected a high ball and played at Désiré Doué, who perfectly ended with a straight-footed cross-shot (0-1, 25 ').
The Sarthois outfit tried to respond, but Matvey Safonov could not be made in the first half, except for the header of Antoine Rabillard that went wide (39 '). It was not enough to threaten the rouge et bleu who still continued to enjoy long spells of possession in an attempt to score a second goal, but did not do this before the break. The power relationships were comparable in the second half, with Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi came as full-backs. It was from the flanks that the Parisians tried to make a difference, in which Khvicha Kvaratskhelia created a smart opening for Senny Mayulu, who saw his powerful shot about the Le Mans Dwarsbalk (60 ').
It was then time for the Parisians to attack the Sang & or the goal again, when they met against an opposition defense that was just as compact as it was disciplined. But when the clock tapped, the home team began to show signs of fatigue. This turned out to be a blessing for Bradley Barcola, who had arrived just like replacement, he broke the left wing before he turned a powerful shot along Ewan Hatfout who went just below the bar (0-2, 71 '). Paris had made the second breakthrough and even came a few moments later near their count when Achraf Hakimi, perfectly set up by Kvaratskhelia, forced the Le Mans keeper to make a salvation (73 '). The end of the match was characterized by another event, where Presnel Kimpembe came to return to competitive action against the Sarthois side, almost two years after his serious injury.
Nothing could go wrong for the Capital Club, who defeated Les Mays to qualify for the quarter -finals of the Coupe de Frane after a competition that was generally well checked. Now it is back to Ligue 1 promotion, with Monaco on Friday 7 February in the Parc des Princes.
