Gary Neville has suggested that man United boss Ruben Amorim does not like two of his players.
Amorim, 40, has passed a difficult start of life at Old Trafford since he had arrived from Sporting Lisbon in November, and has lost eight of his first 19 games.
The most recent of these arrived on Sunday when the Red Devils a demoralizing 2-0 home defeat by Crystal Palace members to let them whine in 13th place in the Premier League and 14 points of the top four.
Amorim made the daring step to bench both recognized Spits of United in Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund for the collision, instead he chose Kobbie Mainoo as a false nine.
The move, however, was not successful, because Jean -Philippe Mateta yielded a brace and while Zirkzee and Hojlund – which together cost the club more than £ 100 million – were introduced in the second half, they had no impact on the game.
And after the game, Neville felt that Amorim's team selection was a mistake, while he hinted that the Portuguese coach was not a fan of the striking couple.
“The only thing I can think of is that it is one of two things,” he told the Gary Neville Podcast. 'Maybe it is experimenting to the point where he just tries to find a solution that works and likes and a system that he wants to play. Or he doesn't like the strikers he has.
'When I saw the team schedule, I thought Fernandes would play in that position or Garnacho. When I saw Kobbie there, everything must be absolutely perfect.
'From the point of view of Palace, they would like that because there is no real goal scorer in the team.
'I am not saying that if Hojlund was there, they would panic, but then there is a physical presence. Zirkzee is a big boy.
'I am not saying that they are brilliant these players, but I couldn't really see how United would score. Where does it come from? '
Zirkzee and Hojlund have passed both difficult campaigns for the club, with the Dutch star scored only three Premier League goals, while the DANE has scored twice in the top flight.
United had hoped to apply offensive reinforcements in January, but despite ties with Mathys Tel, the Bayern Munich star eventually came to Tottenham, although they did add Wingback Patrick Dorgu and defender Ayden Heaven.
And Neville went on it that although Amorim might want to reinforce the attack, if he wants to save something this season, he has to trust those who are at his disposal.
“He won't enjoy this, but I think he should simplify it,” he added. 'Although he may not like Hojlund, he may not think that Zirkzee is great, he may not like other players, but he must choose the players he has, the players he has been served.
'It cannot continue as it is, they have to start playing better, but where does that come from? At the moment it is a very regrettable situation to see Manchester United play. '
In the meantime, Neville also launched a destructive assessment of the first few months of the Amorim era, as a result of which United has lost five of their seven home competitions.
Despite the scorching form of the club, he predicted that things will go even further before the end of the campaign, and he said that their current progression – or the lack thereof – could also hinder the plans of the following season.
“I thought it would be better if Ruben came in Amorim,” he said. 'I thought the enthusiasm and the new system, I thought they would buy the players in it, and we would see a leap.
“We have seen the absolute opposite. It is a lot worse and that is surprising. '
He continued: 'But there will be much more pain against the end of the season and it will be harmful.
'They remain clearly with Ruben Amorim, but the more you lose, the harder it is to convince the players of the idea. The idea he spoke about in the early days.
'You need the players to buy in, but if they lose with it, and they are always criticized, the spotlights come more on them and the fans remain unhappy.
“You can't keep losing. It will suppress the thoughts of the players, to the point that they will lose confidence with the idea.
'It will damage the start of next season. He has to do something. He cannot change his approach because he died in a ditch. And rightly so. I think he has lost more matches at Manchester United since he is Comein than he lost in the last 75 at Sporting. '
United returns to action on Friday when they entertain Leicester in the FA Cup fourth round.
