Lee Carsley ‘makes big decision’ after successful spell in charge of England

Lee Carsley is back in the England Under-21s after guiding the Three Lions to five wins out of six during his spell with the first team.

According to a report, he is happy in this role and has no pressing desire to jump ship and try his hand in club management.

The 50-year-old is content to wait out Thomas Tuchel – who signed an 18-month contract in January 2025 – and aims to become England's permanent manager after the 2026 World Cup.

In addition to his near-perfect record, Carsley handed England debuts to eight players in his two months in charge.

These were Angel Gomes, Noni Madueke, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Curtis Jones, Morgan Rogers, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

According to The Sun, those close to him say that he is enjoying his current position and does not want to take a big step in his management career yet.

Despite heavy ties before Tuchel's appointment, Carsley announced last month that he had not formally applied for the job but wishes the German all the best for the future.

He is certain to come into contact with Tuchel at the turn of the year and humbly admitted that the Champions League-winning boss does not have much to learn from him.

“I'm not sure I'll give Thomas much advice,” he said.

“He's in a better position than me, given the experience he's had and the staff he has.

“It will probably be more about the players, the personalities and the things you don't see on TV.

'I'm collecting a lot of thoughts, just like the rest of the staff.

“I certainly expect to catch up with him after camp and hopefully we can hand over the team in a good position.”
