I’m a Tottenham legend despite getting sacked after 12 months

Juande Ramos calls himself a “spurs legend” because he is the last boss who performs a trophy in the club.

The Spaniard won only 19 of his 54 games – but one was a competition that fans will never forget.

With 1-0 to Chelsea in Wembley, Tottenham fought back to win in extra time, while Jonathan Woodgate's 94th minute header placed the Carling Cup in their trophy cabinet.

Despite the high -profile management appointments of Harry Redknapp, Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, there has been no silverware at Spurs anymore since 24 February 2008.

But Ramos – who was fired after 12 months in October that year – now hopes that Ange Postecoglou can change all of that.

Ange's side takes a 1-0 lead to Anfield for the semi-final second stage of tomorrow night for the Carabao Cup of tomorrow night.

Ramos, 70, said: “I am a Tottenham legend because I am the last manager who wins a trophy.

“Whether I will be considered that way or not, I don't know! But I think that is that.

“It has been far too many years for a great club without being successful.

“This is a club that has everything to win many titles.

“At some point the drought must finish and let's hope it is as quickly as possible. The fans deserve it. “

If Postecoglou ends the annoying waiting of the club for silverware, this would also mean that the name of Ramos could disappear from memory.

But the former Real Madrid and Sevilla boss added: “Tottenham is a club that is in my heart and that I love a lot.

“I hope they win the Carabao Cup, let alone when I go from the last to the penultimate manager to win a trophy.

“That does not change the happy story of the time of Juande Ramos in Tottenham. I wasn't there long, but we had a great time. “

Ramos warns that the aim to simply defend their 1-0 lead on Anfield is a bad idea.

He said: “It is unlikely that Liverpool will not score at all in 90 minutes.

“If they go there to defend it, it will be very difficult to survive.

“They have to take risks, take their game to Liverpool. If Liverpool level the draw, Tottenham will have a mountain to climb.

“But this game is much more important for Tottenham than for Liverpool because it is their best chance of winning a trophy.”

On Wembley 17 years ago, Didier Drogba Chelsea gave a first half a lead for the 70th minute penalty from Dimitar Berbatov and the Header of Woodgate completed a shock combination.

Ramos said: “At the time, Chelsea was the largest team in England and Europe.

“They were clear favorites. We were in the middle of the table, but saw them away and correctly won.

“It was a big surprise, making it all sweeter for the fans.”

But his time had risen after taking two points from the first eight games of the 2008-09 season.

And Ramos put the blame at the door of the club for selling – and not replacing – deadly duo Berbatov and Robbie Keane.

He said: “It was completely unfair because the club sold the two strikers that had scored 44 goals the previous year.

“And it is always the manager who pays the price.

“After I was fired, the club splashed £ 51 million to sign Jermain Defoe and others in December.”
