Arne Slot has defended Liverpool's decision not to jump on the transfer market to strengthen their bid for success this season.
The Reds did not see any incoming transfers during the January window while insisting on four fronts and have a promising six-point lead in the Premier League. The inactive month follows a quiet summer after Slot arrived from Feyenoord, where only Federico Chiesa came on loan, alongside Liverpool who made a deal for Giorgi Mhaldashvili where the goalkeeper stayed with Valencia for another year.
That is the quality of his team, Slot has felt under little pressure to add it so far and trusts the players at his disposal. The Dutchman believes that his team has repaid that faith.
The 46-year-old also revealed that Liverpool's lack of injuries saw the club a relaxed approach. Trent Alexander-Arnold sustained an injury last weekend, but for the most part, Slot is not worried about the long term.
“Maybe there are not many managers with as good as a team like me?” Said Slot for Liverpool's Carabao Cup collision against Tottenham. “The players have shown that the confidence we have in them was correct.
“We don't have many injuries, long -term injuries. We have had something with Alisson, Jota, others, but apart from Trent they are all ready today, so no reason to add to the team unless there is a chance in the market I saw that with the goalkeeper.
The boss of Liverpool revealed prior to closing the transfer window, which the Reds has already begun to concentrate on making movements in the summer. The Anfield could still work with there to be an announcement about the future of out-contract stars Mo Salah, Virgial van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold.
“Liverpool should always compete for a competition title, we always have to compete for the Champions League. I hope I can keep the club at that level,” said Slot last week.
“I know that people sometimes question this because they have not seen us do much on the transfer market in the summer and now also in the winter. There is a reason for that – because we are happy with the team.
“But I do know that we will certainly work on strengthening in the summer.”
Finally revealed that Alexander-Arnold would miss the match against Spurs, but could be contrary to their FA Cup collision with Plymouth Argyle.
“I think you saw that he left the field with a little pain in his leg, so that's why he misses tomorrow,” said Slot. “He is already on the field with the Rehabcoach, let's see how long it takes.”
