Real Madrid is through to the semi-final of 2024-25 Copa del Rey after a 3-2 victory over Leganes in their quarterfinals.
The side of Carlo Ancelotti was in the early stages under the Cosh, and they were almost behind after two minutes when Andriy Lunin made a big save. However, they bounced back well to break the impasse at Butarque, with the opener from veteran -midfielder Luka Modric after he ended up close after he was played by Rodrygo.
Seven minutes later, Endrick Felipe would make the score at 2-0 for Real Madrid. The ball favorably broke his way into the penalty area and he made no mistake to score between the legs of Leganes goalkeeper Juan Soriano.
Real Madrid saw their advantage cut in two just before the half -time interval when Juan Cruz scored from the penalty spot, with Leganes that opportunity after a handball offered by the young defender Jacobo Ramon, who made his first start in the side of Ancelotti. At the hour sign the hosts were sensational to find an equalizer when Cruz scored his second of the evening.
Ancelotti chose to call a considerably destroyed side for the game, and that decision looked doubtful after the Leganes comeback. Real Madrid, however, still managed to get away with the victory, and the winning goal came from the head of Gonzalo Garcia Torres, who delivered his debut goal for the first team – and what a time to get it.
It was far from convincing for Real Madrid, but in the Copa del Rey the performance is not very important as long as the result is positive. It means that they have booked their place in the semi -final next to Atletico Madrid, with whom they will be confronted in La Liga this weekend. On Thursday the local rivals are accompanied by Real Sociedad or Osasuna and Valencia or Barcelona.
