Tottenham Hotspur -boss Ange Postecoglou is convinced that Mathys Tel will stay past his loan period in the club after he stated that he “did not bring him here for six months”.
The 19-year-old was signed on a first temporary deal from Bayern Munich on Transfer Deadline Day, with an option of £ 45 million to permanently include the switch, after performing a dramatic U-turn about his decision to have a to reject movement to track three days earlier.
If the option to make the transfer permanent, tel is activated, a deal of six years will sign and Postcoglou is convinced that this will happen.
“He will certainly play an important role in our end of the season and then,” Postecoglou said prior to the semi-final second leg to Liverpool on Thursday against Liverpool, live on Sky Sports. “He wants to have an impact and I expect him to do that.
“He will be a Tottenham player. I think he will show everyone that he will be a Tottenham player for the next six months. I haven't brought him here for six months.”
Ange on 'selling' traces to Tel
As noted earlier, count initially rejected the move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before he reversed his decision and joined the Deadline Day.
Sky Sports News reported that this U-turn came about after a long conversation with Postecoglou about how he would be used in the team, which won the player's interest again in the club.
When asked about his beliefs, Postecoglou played claims from him from him the move “sell” and instead focused on the conviction he has in the project as the reason why count chose to participate.
He said: “There is something to be said for honesty and integrity. I think I have a pretty fascinating story to tell because I think if I speak with players, I don't try to sell something for which there is not enough evidence.
“It's not about flexible talking or selling. There is a good story here that I really believe. I speak from a strong conviction that what I say will flourish.”
When asked if there had been any conversations with players, Postecoglou added: “I don't have to do anything special. You hear the success stories, but there have been plenty that have not succeeded. There was a few this window!
“You immediately know that there is a disconnection. I don't have a hit rate of 100 percent. I walk away and think of a good player but will not fit well.
“I don't like conversations unless there is really interest from both parties. I don't like to waste my time.”
Tel could make debut vs Liverpool
Postecoglou also confirmed that Tel and colleague new arrival Kevin Danso are available for selection against Liverpool, but Micky Van de Ven will miss the club to take precautions with his return after the ACL injury of Radu Dragusin.
Van de Ven returned to the Europa League victory against Elfsborg after seven weeks of missing a hamstring injury, but was absent for the subsequent victory against Brentford last weekend.
Cristian Romero, who has been out with a thigh injury since December, will not be available either.
“Mathys and Kevin are both available,” said Postecoglou.
“With Micky and Romero to a certain extent, I just feel that we should be more conservative with them.
“My opinion is that we do not risk these guys. We keep them in training and ensure that they are ready and have no setbacks.”
Where does Tel plays for Spurs?
The young attacker adds the very necessary versatility to the injuries of Spurs, with his new manager who claims that he could work as the striker of Wijd, given Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner are all offside.
“Archie Gray wanted to become a central midfielder, so who knows where he will end,” Postecoglou joked when he was asked where to play.
“He has the attributes to certainly play as a no. 9. He certainly played well. At the moment we probably need him in all those areas.
“As much as we have problems in the back, we probably have bigger problems in the attack – we miss three Wingers and our most important striker.
“I still get people who still reject the fact that we will have nine players in the first team tomorrow. Mathys, who can play both wide and centrally, he will play all three roles in the short term.”
