Former Real Madrid legend sparks fury with Monterrey jersey number

Sergio Ramos is ready to become a member of the Liga MX outfit, but his numericous choice was not well received in certain quarters.

The clock tapped at Lisbon's Estadio da Luz. Atletico Madrid was moments of crowned champions of Europe for the first team when they were standing 1-0 opposite city rivals Real Madrid.

Since that memorable night in the Portuguese capital where Madrid insured their tenth European cup, 93 has been a special number for Ramos, with the lace -up defender even tattooing on his head.

Ramos to Rayados

After he was released by Sevilla FC last summer, the player has been a free agent and now seems to be about to move to Liga MX Giants Monterrey.

Club president José Antonio Noriega who spoke on Radio Cope said that the deal will be closed, but given the complexity of the transfer, there are some small details that have to be resolved before the Mexican club can make the move officially.

It has also been reported by the Spanish journalist Juanfe Sanz that Sergio Ramos will wear the No. 93 Jersey with the based outfit on Nuevo Leon.

The move has caused indignation among fans of Atletico Madrid who see the initiative as a provocation.

“Ramos is small and provocative” claims that lifelong Athleti fan Juan Jose Mendoza and adds: “It shows how much, we (Atletico) get under their skin.”

Real Madrid Face Atletico in the Bernabeu this weekend with only one point that separates the sides with the Madrid Derby Set for a kick -off of 3 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.
