The game is over and the final score is Liverpool 4-0 Tottenham. Here is the match report.
Match report
Big Ange Postecoglou is proud that he 'always' wins a trophy in his second season in a club – well his chances have taken.
Arne Slot, who does not make such a brag, has clear sights on a four-time after Liverpool has swept a patched Tottenham aside to reach the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on 16 March.
The only consolation for Spurs Boss Postecoglou is that the men from Slot do not compete in the Europa League – a competition in which the North London side has reached the last 16.
Spurs may have had a slender advantage of the first legs, but this Anfield mission always looked very unlikely.
It turned into a 90 -minute exercise into an irresistible force that insists against the fimble objects.
Cody Gakpo dismissed Liverpool on the night before Mo Salah's penalty, asked in the second half, the Premier League leaders earned a total advantage that they never looked like surrender.
Dominik Szoboszlai ensured the result with a third and Virgil van Dijk went a fourth when Liverpool went to Wembley Way with an imperious strut.
Spurs v Newcastle is said to have represented a dream final between two large clubs that have so desperate to silverware.
But instead the holders went on to a record 15th League Cup final, where they will be strong favorites to beat Eddie Howe's side.
In all honesty to Postecoglou, he had the second season brag before his team was so seriously destroyed by injuries.
He was forced to hire a January signature in the goal, a debutant in the center of the center and a teenager midfielder on the right and the idea that they would someday be ward off on the side of Slot was always imaginative.
But Sunday's FA Cup visit to Aston Villa now gets an even greater meaning for a Spurs side in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
The late strike by Lucas Bergvall had given Spurs their slender advantage – after the Swede had been lucky to avoid a yellow card.
But Tottenham's injury crisis had not even seen a break of a month.
And so the Austrian defender Kevin Danso, on loan from French club lens with a view to a permanent summer movement, received a fast debut.
Slot brought keeper Cooimhin Kelleher in, together with Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones, for his first major knockout draw.
Van Dijk gave Richarlison an annoying elbow in the face within the first three minutes, but referee Craig Pawson and his VAR were unmoved.
Liverpool soon stabbed their visitors, but the patched, thrown defense of Postecoglou looked resolutely, blocked shot after shot, bodies firmly on the line.
Ben Davies was treated for a cut forehead, had to change his white shirt that was splashed with Claret.
Salah had bent a shot wide, Nunez directed a header straight to keeper Antonin Kinsky.
And in the half hour, Szoboszlai ran up with a sloping shot from a Salah pass, only to be highlighted.
Sometimes it felt like it would be a 90-minute attack-versus defense exercise, but Spurs had their moments, forcing a few corners, the stifling pressure illuminated.
But at 34 minutes that pressure told. Yves Bissouma was guilty of a sloppy pass directly to Ryan Gravenberch, who fed Salah.
The Egyptian delivered a cross with the outside of his boot and avoided the central defenders of Nunez and Tottenham before Gakpo hit home.
So often in Anfield, one Liverpool is entitled and a damn eruptions.
And soon it was almost two, Gakpo Centering and Salah volleying in the ground before Kinsky tapped his efforts.
Before the break, Richarlison sustained an injury, banged the ground with frustration before he swinkled to the hunters of the Anfield – once an Evertonian, always an Evertonian.
Mathys Tel, the deadline loan from Bayern Munich, then arrived seven minutes from the first half of injury time.
Even that felt like a long slog for Tottenham to survive, but they managed to escape to their dressing room still on aggregated.
Immediately after the restart, Kinsky was a Salah shot around the post and then pushed a Szoboszlai header and a Gakpo shot.
While the head cried in his ears and the shots rained, Tottenham's Czech keeper would never last much longer.
And when Spurs gave the possession lazy again, Salah held a pass to Nunez, who was stumbled by an attacking Kinsky.
Salah stepped up and learn the spot kick in the roof of the net. It was his 26th goal of the season in all competitions – which improved last season's count in the first week of February.
Postecoglou had a re -perch and sent Bergvall and Pedro Porro, Djed Spence to the right wing and Archie Gray to the left.
Late, traces showed a positive intention, without ever forcing a save by Kelleher.
Gravenberch cracked a shot against the post and then Liverpool sealed the deal.
Alexis Mac Allister, fresh from the bank, fed the excellent Conor Bradley, whose first passed Szoboszlai to shoot past Kinsky.
Son Heung -Min hit the bar shortly thereafter, but it was much too late – and Van Dijk, whose header Chelsea beat in last year's final, nodded from a corner for a delightful head.
The idea that Spurs might be on his way to Wembley was just a dream of Aussie.
