Virgil van Dijk says that Liverpool considers nothing for granted after retaining their urge to an unprecedented quadruple by beating Tottenham to make the EFL cup final.
Liverpool entered the semi-final second stage on Thursday that was necessary to destroy a shortage of 1-0, but after Cody Gakpo opened the score in the first half, it was smooth sailing.
Mohamed Salah took a penalty home early in the second half, after which Dominik Szoboszlai and Van Dijk scored to put the draw above all doubt.
Liverpool is now in a record-expanding 15th EFL Cup final, where Newcastle United is waiting for after their 4-0 aggregated triumph over Arsenal in the other four tie.
Arne Slot's Reds also lead the Premier League table with six points with a competition in hand and are one of the favorites to win the Champions League and the FA Cup.
However, Van Dijk is sure that they will not leave it.
“We needed a complete achievement. During the break I thought we could reach a level of more intensity,” Red's captain told Sky Sports.
“But to win here is as we have done tonight, is great for the team and the club. If you bring intensity to the game, everyone can make mistakes. It was a wonderful victory today.
“Nights like this, where there is a lot at stake, we didn't consider it a matter of course. We all wanted to go there [Wembley] Again with the fans, and it was a great team performance.
“We are now in February and we cannot complain about the situation in which we find ourselves, but we should not consider it for granted and not easy for each other. I don't see that happening.”
Since he made his Liverpool debut in January 2018, Van Dijk has scored 26 goals in all competitions -more than any other Premier League defender.
Tottenham did not succeed in taking a single shot in a game under Ange Postecoglou, which was most disappointed about the way of defeat.
“It is honest to say that we did not come to the levels that we needed tonight. It would always be a big challenge for us,” he said in his press conference after the game.
“They are clearly a very good side and at a great moment with all their players in a very good shape, very arranged.
“But for us to give ourselves a chance, we had to be a lot more aggressive with and without the ball and we were not.
“We allowed them to control the game and dictate where it was played. In the end they were too good for us.
“It is disappointing. It was a great opportunity for us to get a final. We did not give ourselves the chance to make the chance, which is probably more disappointing.”
Asked if the long Letels list of Spurs made it difficult to assess their results, Postecoglou added: “I am not worried about whether who assesses.
“I think that in the end is my responsibility to try to get the players I have to perform to the best of the skills and tackle the problems we have at the moment.”
