Manchester United has issued a brutal Ultimatum to seal the signing of £ 29 million Patrick Dorgu, Lecce Chiefs have unveiled.
The left back completed a move to Old Trafford during the final days of the January transfer window. He put the pen on paper for a deal of five and a half years to become the first signing of Ruben Amorim as a red Devils Boss.
And while United eventually got their husbands, they were confronted with competition, specifically from Napoli. But Chiefs at the Italian club claimed that United was willing to pay above market value to seal the signature of Dorgu.
The only thing that remained after that point was to convince Lecce, who wanted to close a deal until the summer. And the President Saverio Sticchi Damiani of the club has revealed that they were forced to cash in Dorgu because United warned a 'now or never' of a deal. He said: “It is our record transfer and it happens in our moment of great economic health.
“It was not a planned operation, it was not done to fill in critical problems from the past. It brings us wealth from all points of view and the possibility to make technical and structural investments.
“We said several times that Dorgu would not leave in January, and now I will explain why the opposite happened. Manchester United arrived, who made himself with us and with the boy's entourage, received an official answer from us that I am leaving here , in which we said that we were not going to let Dorgu leave in January and not talk about figures, not to ask for increases.
“This, instead of stopping United, had the opposite effect. Manchester insisted that we asked several times to postpone everything until the summer, the young man also promised that he would not miss the chance.
“It was also a historic step for us, we just wanted to do it in July. The English communicated us their desire, the club and their coach, to be immediately. There was an ultimatum – 'now or never' – that also gave this message to the player himself.
“You cannot judge Dorgu, you are 20 years old and Manchester United comes to you with such an offer. The combination of these factors made us think we would have gone from consistent to stupid stubborn. “
Dorgu could stand in line for his United debut during the weekend. Amorim's side takes up Leicester in the FA Cup fourth round in a match that indicates the return of Ruud van Nistelrooy to Old Trafford.
