Tottenham's weak version in their semi -final collapse from their Carabao Cup in Liverpool was torn apart by Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp – branded with the display as “horrible” and “shocking”.
Spurs went to Anfield with a 1-0 lead on the first leg but succumbed to a 4-0 defeat in the return fixture with goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk who the aggregate win for the Premier League -Leaders seals for the Premier League Leaders.
The response from Spurs to that was zero shots on goal – because they missed the chance to hire Newcastle in the final on March 16 in Wembley.
“I can't remember a team in my life with less fight with what Spurs did today,” said former Spurs -Midfender and Sky Sports' Redknapp.
“I don't have a shot on goal in the semi -final of a second leg when you try to change the course of your history?
“I feel sorry for those players. I think Djed Spence has played 14 different positions tonight. I have never seen anything like that. You have young players, you are meant to protect them.
“Archie Gray and [Lucas] Bergvall, they are young men and do their best. But today I look at the experienced players to lead and try to set the pace. They didn't do that for a little bit.
“There has been some lows this season – Palace, Ipswich and Everton. But if you look at that today, The Scoreline? Just terrible.”
Asked to respond to that Redknapp remarks in his press conference, Spurs -Baas Ange Postecoglou replied: “Why are you asking me? Ask Jamie, he made the comment.
“I know that people are getting enthusiastic about such things, people on TV give opinions, that's what they are to do. My job is to manage this football club. What people think or don't think it's not relevant, it's not Really matter.
“I do not emphasize or who we are. Everyone can have an opinion and express. My opinion is that I don't have to respond to it or be struck by it. I don't care, it doesn't worry me, It doesn't bother me “
“It's Tottenham! They never shock you! – Carra on the mental block of Spurs
In the meantime, Sky Sports said that he never had faith in Spurs who finished the track after their victory over the first legs.
“It was never in doubt before the game,” said Carragher about Liverpool's victory. “It's Tottenham! When to win Tottenham will you ever win a big game? When will Tottenham ever surprise, win against expectations?
“The chances were huge against Liverpool, they are in Anfield, they are the best team in the country, perhaps the best team in Europe at the moment.
“But it's not just this Spurs team. They never shock you, never do anything special.
“I try to remember the last big match they won: it was probably that semi -final against Ajax in the Champions League [in 2019].
“I was in the stadium that night and I don't want to take it away from Tottenham, but they were very lucky! They were battered for most of the game, it was a freak and they got two goals in the last minute.
“When they enter a big game like a club, nobody ever believes they will win. I am not like a fan of Liverpool, those Tottenham fans there tonight – not one of them believed that they would win and Wembley would go! They just won't do it. “
'Accrington Stanley gave more'
Former Liverpool defender Carragher added that he felt that League Two Side Accrington Stanley gave a better report of herself when they visited Anfield for their FA Cup Third Round match with Liverpool.
The figures even support that. The fourth side of John Doolan achieved one shot at the goal in their 4-0 defeat on January 11, while they admit fewer shots and had more accents in the Liverpool penalty area than the attempt by Spurs on Thursday.
Carragher said: “I am not only saying this to try to make a head, but I am thinking of an FA Cup band that played Liverpool at home a few weeks ago. AcCHRington Stanley gave more than Tottenham and caused Liverpool more a problem in that game .
“You play against the best team in Europe, nobody expects you to continue, but it is the way of defeat. Those three midfield players are large, strong, powerful guys who can run, but if I play in a semi-final, me hit Curtis Jones early.
“We saw it from Newcastle [against Arsenal]. Newcastle was ready and started to make it as heavy as possible. Tottenham did not make that difficult for Liverpool. It was one of the easiest matches they had this season.
“Even when promoted teams come to Anfield, they don't play with that fear. They also took a lead of one goal. It just goes back to that stereotype that we all have with Tottenham.
“I loved the [Mauricio] Pochettino team, it had steel about it, probably the best Tottenham team since the early 80s, and that team still couldn't get over the line. There is definitely a mental block with the club. It goes back for a long time. “
Postecoglou 'looks lonely while Spurs struck senior players
Former Spurs – defender Michael Dawson believes that Subvur Spurs Boss Postecoglou sees “Looks Lonely” on the Touchline – while this latest setback increases the spotlights in its position.
But there was also criticism of the senior players of Spurs – in particular Captain Heung -Min Son – who went closest to the net by touching the bar in the second half. But the North Londoners were 3-0 lower at that time.
“He looks lonely there himself,” Dawson said about Postecoglou. “He will go through a challenging time. The players have to give more than they give at the moment. The senior players.
“Son is someone we have been talking about for years and years in this Premier League and how good he has been. But if it gets difficult, and we've experienced it all, you have to watch your senior players and help young players.
“But believe me, that was a low, low night for Spurs.
“It would always be against the wall, but they did not show a character in possession, out of possession and they showed no desire to keep the ball out of the back of the net.
“To get here and to be defeated 4-0 without any fight and without a shot on goal, it is a harmful execution.”
Asked if he feels lonely on the touchline, Postecoglou told Sky Sports: “It is not an emotion that I feel. I am disappointed that we were unable to give a better report of ourselves and get a final.
“The players are very disappointed. We had a great opportunity and unfortunately we didn't get it.
“Liverpool completely earned the victory tonight. They were the better team. We just couldn't get a grip in a part of the game defensive or with the ball. They were too good for us.
“We let them come into play, we were not as aggressive as we had to be. Again, we did not start the game on the right foot, it enabled them to become comfortable. Once they felt at ease, Was difficult for us to get some control back “
Redknapp also focused on the tactic of Postecoglou, even with a long list of injuries that solve for traces. Their number of absent went to 11 with Richarlison who banged in Anfield in the first half.
“Yes, they have had injuries, but there are still enough players to cause Liverpool some problems,” he said.
“There have been defeats for Ipswich, Leicester, Crystal Palace and Everton. Everyone seems to find a way to beat this side of Tottenham.
“The manager surprises me with his tactics. I think he is completely lost in what he is trying to do.
“You have to adjust and you have to change. If you don't have the staff you want, you have to make sure that your tactics are perfect.”
