Man Utd ‘eye PSG star’ as Ruben Amorim wants reunion to solve problem position

Manchester United are keeping an eye on PSG star Nuno Mendes while Ruben Amorim is eyeing a reunion.

Old Trafford's new manager will look for players to fit the 3-4-3 system he wants to implement in Manchester. Wingbacks will be key to success and there are concerns on the left around Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, largely down to their fitness.

As a result, Mendes is a player on their radar, with Amorim knowing him well from their time together at Sporting Lisbon. During his impressive run, the French champion spent more than £30 million to secure his services and has since been a big hit in Paris.

Convincing the Ligue 1 champions to sell could be a tough task, but the Manchester outfit are monitoring his situation. United have also discussed Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, a target for Real Madrid, as an option, the Daily Mail reports.

United know that there is a shortage of money after a hefty summer period under Erik ten Hag. It means they have to be smart in the market and it may prohibit their ability to go after a big name.

Ahead of Amorim's first match on Sunday, Shaw has been training as a left wing-back but is not considered fit enough to play at Portman Road. This was the first week that the Portuguese boss has been able to work with his new players.

Amorim wants to install his system quickly and The Sun understands that he already knows certain players will not be able to play in it. The coaching staff and analysts drill players and have them watch demonstrations of Amorim's setup to keep them informed.

The new man at the helm has promised to make it clear, even in his first match, that the team will have a clear identity and way of playing. He said: “We know we need time, but we have to gain time. Winning time means winning matches. But the most important thing for me is identity.

“So from day one we'll start with our identity. Of course we'll prepare the games, but we'll focus a lot on our game model. How to play, how to press, these little things, little details. You can't go 100% into every detail because it will be confusing for the players. So if I have to say one thing: my main goal, my first goal, is identity.
