Donley scores from halfway line v Man City – but it’s harshly ruled an own goal

Leyton Orient was in FA Cup Dreamland after taking a shock ahead against Manchester City.

Jamie Donley surprised the Premier League champions by aiming from 40 yards on Brisbane Road.

Pep Guardiola called a strong starting XI for the trip to East London.

Jack Grealish, Omar Marmoush, Ilkay Gungogan and Savinho all started for the sevenfold FA Cup winners.

While Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, John Stones and Bernard were all called on the couch.

But the city was made to pay for a slow start when Orient took the lead in 15 minutes.

Donley came out the best after a 50/50 in the middle of the park and saw keeper Stefan Ortega from his line.

The 20-year-old hit a brilliant strike from just within half of the city, which Ortega could only see flying over his head.

Donley was only a great goal refused by the bar.

But the ball hit back from the woodwork instead, Ortega hit and rolled into the net.

Donley, on loan from Tottenham, has scored six times in 22 games since he came to the O's in the summer.

Orient has enjoyed a super season in League One and are well hunting for the play -offs.

So far, they have defeated Boreham Wood, Oldham Atheltic and Championship Side Derby during their run to the fourth round.

City got a blow later in the first half when the new signing by Nico Gonzalez debuted the injured in the debut.

Marmoush, Grealish and Savinho all had the opportunity to level up before the break, but were kept out by Orient keeper Josh Keeley.
