Luis Enrique taking no risks ahead of Brest showdown

Luis Enrique rejected an idea of overspring prior to Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League collision in Brest.

The first stage of the play-off Tie of the knockout phase takes place in a sold-out location in Guingamp, where Brest organizes the competition because of the UEFA Stadium regulations.

PSG is flying high in Ligue 1 and only recently hammered Brest 5-2.

Indeed, they are unbeaten in their last 30 games against Brest in all competitions (W22 D8), with their last defeat against them in January 1985.

Luis Enrique, however, does not take anything for granted.

“They were one of the best teams in France last season,” he told reporters on Monday.

“Their reward played in the Champions League and they qualified with impressive versions.

“In football terms I don't know what will happen on Tuesday. We are all aware of the importance of this match and what it means for the club.

“The best playing team does not always win. Brest can score goals against us, and we want to play as well as possible and prepare ourselves in the best way.”

Luis Enrique made it clear that PSG should approach the collision with full focus because of the unpredictability of knockout phases, with the return bone in Parc des Princes on February 19.

“We are aware that this is another two -legged draw because it is between two French clubs, and there will only continue. We are favorites, but football is full of surprises,” he said.

“The Champions League is an important competition for us. These are two games of 90 minutes. We have to win, we have no choice. We are aimed at trying to win.”

The Spaniard also emphasized winger Ousmane Dembele as an important player for the game.

“He is brilliant in finding space and ending in one touch. It is great to be part of a team where these qualities come together,” added Luis Enrique.

Brest only lost one of their four home games in the competition phase of the Champions League of this season (W2 D1), their last game against Real Madrid (0-3).

They are the first French side to pass the first round of the European Cup/Champions League in their debut campaign in the major European competition since Nice reached the quarterfinals in 1956-57.
