Celtic has confirmed that Kieran Tierney will return to the club in July 2025.
Tierney was connected to a return to Celtic during the transfer star in January. That didn't come true, but manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed last month that there was a pre-agreement.
In their latest interim-financial report, published on Monday, Celtic confirmed that the full-back has signed a pre-contract agreement and will return in July.
“During the transfer window of January 2025 we acquired the permanent registration of Jota and the temporary registration of Jeffrey Schlupp,” the report said.
“Moreover, we have expanded the contract of Kasper Schmeichel and concluded a pre-contract agreement with which Kieran Tierney will return to Celtic in July 2025. We have the registrations of Kyogo Furuhashi, Alexander Bernabei and placed Luis Palma, Odin Holm and placed Stephen Welsh on Bankleen . “
Tierney reated through the Celtic Academy and played 170 games for the club before he came to Arsenal in 2017 in a £ 25 million deal.
Since then he has been made 129 performances for the Gunners in all competitions, scored five goals and added 13 assists.
Celtic Wanted Tierney in January
Sky Sports News reported that Celtic insisted to sign the Arsenal defender on loan in the January transfer window, with a view to completing the deal in the summer. Arsenal, however, chose to keep Tierney with the Emirates until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
The 27-year-old defender has made five performances for the Gunners this season, but only one of these trips arrived in the starting line-up against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.
The hoops also allowed Alex Valle to reduce his Loan movement from Barcelona Short to join the SIJE Side Como Serie, where Jeffrey Schlupp went the other way from Palace to offer coverage on the left.
Speaking while the window remained open, Rodgers said: “Ideally, it would do that [happen in January] But at the moment he is still an Arsenal player.
“I think everyone agrees that it will certainly take place in the summer. If we can do it in advance, then it's great.
“I don't know. I think, as I said, we had prepared that for the summer. And I don't want to speak too much about it, with the greatest respect, because he is not a Celtic player here now.
“But if we could do it, we would of course want to do that. But that is currently outside of our control. “
