Sporting CP 0-3 Dortmund: Guirassy, Gross and Adeyemi help BVB secure big lead

Borussia Dortmund is firmly in the drive chair of their UEFA Champions League Knockout-Phase-OFF draw after scoring last 16.

Dortmund, in only their second match under new head coach Niko Kovač, was disciplined at the back in a Cagey first half in which none of both parties seemed too much to risk.

Sporting had the best chance of the first 45 minutes when the poisonous ride of Maximiliano Araújo hit the bar from the edge of the box.

Conrad Harder had also washed away a powerful attempt by Gregor Kobel, while on the other hand Dortmund came closest through the blistering low shot of Jamie Gittens of 25 meters that just waved waved wide.

Serhou Guirassy was just as lively as the interval was approaching, widely shot up close and a penalty recovery force fell away after a dart in the box.

The match followed a similar pattern early in the second half until a loose ball in the box was friendly to Karim Adeyemi, whose low, first effort was well saved by goalkeeper Rui Silva.

That led Dortmund to life and only a few moments later made former Mainz defender Jeremiah St. Juste a last packle to prevent Adeyemi from getting away from a shot and Gittens had also blocked an attempt.

There was no stopping with a brilliant, running Guirassy Header back on the goal and in the net of a point Julian Brandt Cross, however, which took the charge of Kovač.

Guirassy became the provider a short time later and delivered a copy of the right -wing cross of Brandt for Pascal Groß to tap the Achterste Post.

Adeyemi scored a potentially decisive third goal and slid in to finish another cross of Brandt to leave Kovač's accusations on the eve of a place in the round of 16.
