Barcelona will try to strengthen their forward line in the summer, but despite the return of their salary limit for the first time in three years in January, they will continue to hinder their financial situation. That will probably affect their plans for the summer, with three names underlined on their shortlist.
It seems that the Catalan giants make a kind of movement this summer, whether it is a left wing player or a center-forward to finally replace Robert Lewandowski. As reported this week, and now confirmed by Sport, their preferred option Newcastle United Striker Alexander Isak is. They have contacted the Swedish attacker informally and received a positive answer to the prospect to sign him.
That contact took place in December, but there were no further discussions – the figures involved are probably out of reach for Barcelona. Newcastle will demand more than € 100 million, and unless Barcelona secures a large sale this summer, it is unlikely that they can take a step for him.
He is the preferred option of Sporting Director Deco, but another number nine that has proponents in the Catalan club is RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian attacker has a release clause of € 65 million and significant importance from Arsenal, but if he wants to wear the Blaugrana, he will probably have to wait another year. Robert Lewandowski will stay in Barcelona next season, and so they believe it would not be logical to have two pure nines in the team. It is noticed by the Catalan Daily that the agents of Sesko are in Barcelona, but no meeting with the club has been confirmed.
The other preferred option of Deco, and perhaps most likely, is Luis Diaz. The Liverpool attacker has been connected to Barcelona since the end of last season, and the Colombian is 'extremely excited' by the prospect of playing for Barcelona, for both personal and professional reasons.
