Kompany lauds Bayern after surviving Celtic Park cauldron

Vincent Kompany celebrated a “great result” when Bayern Munich survived a tough test at Celtic, although the visiting boss warned that it is just the peace in their Champions League-equal game.

Michael Olise and Harry Kane stood on both sides of the tranquility in Celtic Park before Daizzen Maeda offered the Hope of the hosts to retrieve a goal 11 minutes from the time.

Bayern will take a slim 2-1 lead in the return meeting of their play-off draw on Tuesday, and Kompany was satisfied to escape from the Fort of Celtic with a hard-fought victory.

“It's cliché to say, but it's the first half of the game. In general it is really a great result,” said Kompany at his press conference after the game.

“The fans have not seen many losses here, especially in Europe, so we appreciate the importance of the game and victory.”

Kompany always expected a difficult challenge and acknowledged how important the home crowd can be when inspiring Celtic beyond their opponents.

“I know this place, I know it sometimes transcends the performance,” he added. “We treated it very well for long spells of the game, the game did not go crazy.

“We had to defend the last 10 minutes and we did that well. Of course you can feel at those moments, when the game comes to life, it's a special place.”

Manuel Neuer was still obliged to deny Alistair Johnson in the dying seconds, although Bayern had the feeling that they deserved the victory.

However, the home team collected 1.34 expected goals (XG) to Bayern's 0.94, suggesting that the side of Brendan Rodgers had the competition in the shade for the quality of the opportunities they have created.

However, Kompany did not seem to have fears, knowing that Celtic should make the trip to Munich next week.

“We are also quite at home, so we will also want to play on that,” he concluded.

“We have an important competition on Saturday, so we point out our focus.”

Rodgers was now disappointed about how Celtic defended for the goal of Kane, where the striker converted after the corner delivery of Joshua Kimmich.

“The corner [for Harry Kane’s goal] Was disappointing, “he told his press conference after the game.” One of the world's best strikers should not be left freely in the box, that's for sure. “
