Rodgers urges Celtic to leave Bayern return leg with ‘no regrets’

Bayern Munich defeated the first stage of the Champions League of their play-off tie with Celtic, as a result of which Brendan Rogers encouraged his silk to leave the return change with “no regret”.

Michael Olise shot a lush open home on the tranquility of the rest before Harry Kane doubled the lead for the visitors of Vincent Kompany in the second half.

Diben Maeda, however, succeeded in withdrawing once for the hosts in Celtic Park with 11 minutes left, so that the men of Rodgers hope for the second stage in Munich on Tuesday.

The Celtic manager was satisfied with the way his team ended the collision on Wednesday and called on them to leave nothing to the imagination in Munich.

“The last 25 minutes we started to press the game, we were more active at the top of the field and you see what it brought – aggression,” Rodgers told TNT Sports.

“Our football starts to come to life and then we get the goal.

“Bayern Munich hangs on 2-1. That is what we can make. We still have a shot. It is a new level for many of the players, they have done it absolutely great.

“Let's go and don't regret it and see where it brings us. We have shown that we can play football and be a threat.

“We are still right in the draw. With their quality and the number of goals they can score, they can sometimes be out of sight, but that was not the case at all.”

The finish of Kane from the corner of Joshua Kimmich turned out to be the difference, as the striker scored for the 19th time against Kasper Schmeichel, five more than he managed against another goalkeeper.

The Bayern Forward also moved to 46 Champions League -targeted involvement, with only David Beckham (52) and Wayne Rooney (47) who once manage more among English players in the competition.

Kane acknowledged that the atmosphere of Celtic Park would always be a difficult challenge, although Bayern's “special” quality praised that helped them navigate with noisy support for home.

“[Our performance] Was okay. When you win such a game, you are always satisfied because it is not an easy place to come, “England's captain told TNT Sports.

“There were absolutely areas in the game in which we could have done better, and we have to improve the following week, but in general we scored at the right time.

“They put pressure on us at the end and we had to stay strong, what we did.

“We knew that the atmosphere would help them at the start of the game, and they almost scored after a minute. We had to be patient, we knew we would have more off the ball.

“Sometimes you need a little special quality to open such a game.”
