Barcelona looked like they would replace Ronald Arajo a few months ago, and that could still be the case, but it left them a number of big decisions to make the following summer. Bayer Leverkusen Defender Jonathan Tah was their primary alternative to Araujo, and the German defender is available for free, after he has decided not to sign a new deal in the Bayarena.
Just like Bayern Munich, Barcelona moved last summer to sign Tah, but could not agree with a deal with Leverkusen. The Bavarian Giants, together with Real Madrid, are credited with an interest in Tah and were cited as the most important competition of the Blaugrana for his signature this summer. Nevertheless, MD reports that Tah has decided that he wants to play for Barcelona about other offers.
The 28-year-old German international supported the Catalan giants as a child, and a meeting will soon take place to hammer a deal with Barcelona. It is noted that nothing has been agreed between the two parties, even if contacts have taken place earlier to see if the other parties were interested. Tah is aware that he earns less in Barcelona, but prefers a move to Spain above Bayern.
That said, Barcelona will have to assure him of two things: that they can register him at La Liga, and whether he will have a key role in the side. Sports director Deco gave an interview with Sport on Wednesday, which would suggest that the chances of Tah to draw for Barcelona is decreasing.
“There are many variables that we do not control, but the idea is there and we know what we want. If the question is about whether we have four center backs, it will be difficult to get someone in, that's true. “
Barcelona is only two weeks away from the signing of Ronald Araujo to a new contract extension until 2031, and so far the debate has been painted as one or the other, with neither of them happy to enjoy a second role. Deco has assured that Arajo wants to stay, but there is still a lot of talking that he could leave in the summer.
