United States’ ‘biggest loser’ in the Champions League Playoffs

USMNT players struggled in the first stage of the UEFA Champions League -Knock -rock rounds, with Weston Mckennie the only light place.

It was not a great evening for American players in the UEFA Champions League. Weston McKennie was the only striking and scored in the 2-1 victory of Juventus on PSV-one in which Richard Ledezma was aware, although Ricardo Pepi and Malik Tillman were put aside with injuries. Furthermore, it was a forgetful evening for USMNT stars.

On Wednesday, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan fell 1-0 for Feyenoord, a match in which Yunus Musah was not available because of the suspension. Elsewhere Celtic's Trusty and Cameron Carter vickers suffer a 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich. However, the biggest loser of the night was Giovanni Reyna.

Borussia Dortmund insured a commander 3-0 away victory over Sporting Lisbon, but the American midfielder that the number 7-shirt does not play a single minute. That evokes concern for the Nations League, especially with the 2026 World Cup in just a year.

Reyna has only seen 192 minutes of action in this season's Champions League, the second lowest count among American players in the competition-all Ricardo Pepi has played less, with 161 minutes spread over seven games.

Gio Reyna, a talent that still has to take off

In addition to the management change after the departure of Edin Terzić, Reyna has difficulty having playing time under a coach – either because of injuries or tactical decisions. He remains a promise unfulfilled.

Under new head coach Niko Kovač, the American only played for five minutes in two games. In his first outing under the Croatian manager, against Stuttgart, he entered the 85th minute and replaced Pascal Groß.

More than 15 games this season, Reyna has only played 359 minutes, which means that he is only 27% of the available minutes on the field. Last season was not better, because he only knew 592 minutes in 24 games – on average only 27.4% of the possible playing time.
