Title-chasing Simeone wary of ‘brave’ Celta Vigo

Atletico Madrid has the best defense in Europe's top five competitions, but Diego Simeone is wary of the threat that Celta Vigo will pose on Saturday.

Atletico is second in Laliga, a point behind leaders Real Madrid after 23 games.

The side of Simeone has only admitted 15 goals and held 11 clean sheets in the competition.

Only four teams in Europe's top five competitions have a lower expected goals against (XGA) figure than 20.31 from Atleti.

Although Celta Vigo is 12th in Laliga with a negative target difference, they have scored 34 goals, only four less than Atletico this period.

“I don't look at those statistics because they are just numbers. The only thing that matters is how you are ready,” Simeone told reporters.

“On the way we go Game by Game, which ultimately gives you the opportunity to achieve our goals.”

Celta broke a five-match Winless Run in all competitions when they defeated Real Betis 3-2 last weekend, from 2-0 to Triumph thanks to an 87th minute Williot Swedberg goal.

“With Celta Vigo there is no clearer point than concentrating on what comes next. They are a team that plays very well offensive,” said Simeone.

“They have achieved success since the arrival of the coach and with many young people who interpret his feature philosophy very well. It is a brave team that plays with many players in half of the opposition.

“They recently turned a game that they lost 2-0. That certainly gives you enthusiasm, so I imagine that it will be a game that we will have to bring to them, where we believe we can hurt them.”
