Kaoru Mitoma from Brighton was placed in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Dennis Bergkamp after producing a beautiful touch before he shot one of the Great Premier League goals against Chelsea on Friday evening.
The Japanese forward scored Brighton's opener against Chelsea in the 26th minute with undoubtedly the best goal of his career when the seagulls hit 3-0 winners.
From a long goal of the field of Brighton's goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen, Mitoma looked the ball completely on his foot before he produced an agile touch to put it under control immediately.
He then cut inside and drove past Trevoh Chalobah before he curled the ball past Filip Jorgensen and in the corner of the net.
It was a goal of extreme beauty and left Jamie Carragher, who commented on Sky Sports, in Maptures.
“What have we just seen? That was outrageous from Mitoma, “said the former Liverpool defender.
'The touch is almost everything you will see in the Premier League this season. Wow. And the finish is also not bad. It's messi-like. And I don't say that light. '
He then added to the second half: “The more I find more, the more I think it is one of the best goals I have seen.”
Carragher gave Mitoma his husband-of-the-match award at the end of the game “Only for that purpose.”
In the studio, Gary Neville was remembered by presenter Kelly Cates of two similar goals that Dennis Bergkamp scored – one for the Netherlands against Argentina in the World Cup 1998 and another for Arsenal against Leicester in the previous season.
“This is really special,” said Neville.
'[Dennis] Bergkamp did the same in Leicester and he is one of the biggest players we have seen. Almost an artist on the field.
'The balance, the touch, the way in which he switches the ball aside, is simply spectacular that it is real.
“The goalkeeper has to make it, it's not in the corner, he gets his hand on it, but it's not a good time for him.
'It enlightened the entire competition. It is a very special goal. He is a fantastic player. I would have hated playing against him. '
Fans joined the two Sky experts in their praise for the quality of the goal.
One wrote on X: 'Kaoru. Mitoma. Has. The. Best. To touch. I have. Ever. Seen. Live. End. By.'
While another added: 'Serious competition for the purpose of the season. Wow Mitoma. '
