Ruben Amorim bemoans media spotlight

Ruben Amorim jokingly admitted he is still struggling to come to terms with the media attention that comes with being Manchester United manager.

Amorim's first game in charge was a largely disappointing affair, with the Red Devils sharing the points with Ipswich at Portman Road.

Marcus Rashford provided his new manager with a perfect start when he opened the scoring in the second minute, but Omari Hutchinson's brilliant strike leveled the scores and the match finished 1-1.

Amorim joined Sky's experts after the match to discuss the differences between United's management and his former club Sporting Lisbon.

He said: 'This week I have spoken more to the media than in four years at Sporting. I just want to work with my players. Nothing more'.

'My players thought too much in the game. You could feel it'.

Amorim had no complaints about the efforts of his new group of players, but accepted that it will take time to improve.

'It's hard to expect anything now. It's not a surprise, but you have to see it in the game. That's why I was a little worried, because you can't understand what will happen in the game. I felt that,' Amorim reflected.

“What I understood today is that they are trying, they are really trying. They stay in the positions, they receive information and try to use it in the game. That is very important.

“Even in the tough moments, I felt like they were doing the things we told them to do.

“I know it's frustrating for the fans, but we're changing so much at the moment with a lot of games. We will suffer for a long time and we will try to win games. This will take time, but I know we have to win games.

'We could lose if it wasn't (for) Onana. We have to understand that and consider that and be pragmatic that these guys have had two days of training to change that much.”

Amorim added: “We started very well, but then we should have more possession.

“If we create a new structure and you are so clear about it, they need time to get some fluidity into the game. I felt that, but it was two training sessions (sessions after the international break) and they did a good job.'

“The atmosphere, you're lucky guys,” he said, smiling.

'You have by far the best league in the world and you see this every weekend, but to tell you the truth, when the match started it was the same since the (Portuguese) third division, I am so focused on the game and I play with my players on the field.'
