Arsenal -legend Ian Wright has challenged Raheem Sterling to become the replacement of Kai Havertz as the No. 9 of the club and avoid leaving with a whimmer.
Havertz will miss the rest of the season after a hamstring injury during a training camp in the United Arab Emirates, as reported by Mail Sport for the first time.
Sources have indicated that he will undergo surgery in the coming days before performing a recovery program that will extend to the preseason.
The battle leaves Mikel Arteta with only three recognized senior attackers with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, also stuck on the treatment table.
But Wright believes that Sterling has had a chance to act and encouraged him to understand it with both hands by 'nodding down'.
“Because Kai Havertz is just devastating to get an injury,” said Wright, speaking on Stick to Football. 'You can draw a hamstring, but something went wrong if it has been torn to the point where he is for the season.
'He played a lot of games for us and Mikel Arteta would think he should get a player in January. The chance that has arisen for him [Sterling]This is the time in which he has to be stuck and say: “I have to let this work”.
“Otherwise he goes out with a whimmer. The last time I saw him come and did something in a short time was against Manchester United – that's what you want to see of him, just come on and try to make something happen.
“The fans also hope – you can hear their moans, so you feel that he is in that place where if he does nothing positive, he can hear them coming – and that is not a great place to be.”
First-team Livesters Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri are the only other options of Arteta for his StrikeForce and the situation has become so terrible that even Center Back William Saliba has offered jokes to fill in the front.
“Willy is so funny,” said Arteta.
'It was immediately one of his reactions. It is also true that he played there (as a young person). He always scored many goals. But probably many players there played when they were younger. Can you imagine (him as a goalkeeper)? '
Arsenal, who follows League Liverpool with seven points, can limit the gap on the top position during lunch when they travel to relegation-threatened Leicester.
