Neville accuses Levy of running Spurs ‘oppressively’ and is ‘playing FM’

Gary Neville has accused Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy of being 'oppressed' in his club's running.

The Legend of Manchester United gave a balanced assessment of Levy's Reign, who praised his business insight and financial responsibility, but claims that he interferes too much on the football side.

It comes after thousands of Spurs fans protested against his reign in the streets prior to their 1-0 win over Manchester United, with songs of 'Levy Out' for the 13th minute goal of James Maddison.

They held complaints against the leadership of Enic and Levy, as well as ticket prices and the club's plan to put an end to concessions for seniors.

Levy is often accused of having a tighter wallet than other club leaders. In 2024, Spurs spent 42 percent of their income wages, a figure that is overshadowed by their rivals, but their net spending of -£ 466.07 million in the last five seasons is the third highest of the competition.

'The rumor mill is that Tottenham may be looking for people to buy this club. It will be a big price, but it would probably be the right time in some ways, “Neville told Sky Sports.

'I think what he did here in terms of the stadium, making the grounds of training well. The problem is that he is unable to loosen the football side of himself, so that he ultimately just runs the business side

“He is clearly very good at that. He runs a pretty tight ship. That's what you want in a football club – it's easy in a football club to get people who say yes, who become emotional about spending money.

'He has to take care of Tottenham and their future in the long term, but he must also bring in experts in the football department and he always seems to interfere and to be and oppressive in the way he deals with it.

'That's the big problem, because a football club is a football club and it's all about the performance of the first team.

'The stadium is great, the training field is great, that's what he can do, he can do, he can produce commercial income, ensuring that the NFL and Beyonce are here, there is a lot of money in the club, he has it Long protected -Term Future of the Club II Conditions of income and things that are really important.

“But he can't let go. It's a bit like United when David Gill and Sir Alex Ferguson left, the boys who ran the commercial side, who did a great job, entered the football side and think they can play football manager. And they can't do that, it's a very different skills. '

The victory over Manchester United is lifting Tottenham to the 12th in the table, but will do little to balm the long -term dissatisfaction of supporters.

The anger at Levy is long-term with Tottenham-trophy-less 17 years and without a top three finish in the competition since 2018.

This is despite the fact that the club records a turnover of £ 615 million last season and charges the second most expensive season card in Europe for £ 856.

Fulfilling their vow to do this from earlier this week, thousands of supporters showed up for a demonstration, which are tired of the deterioration of the club on the field during Levy's term of office.

A crowd of at least 2,000 crossed the main road before they come together outside the stadium where various songs for taxes to leave the club were heard.

A number of large banners were then stopped outside the western stand, with one of the largest – aimed at majority owners Enic – reading: '24 years, 16 managers, 1 trophy – time for change. '

Fans have focused the lack of ambition of ownership, with another banner reading: “Dare is too dear, Enic out.”

The disapproval has often emerged from the long -term trophy -dried of Tottenham, after he has not won a piece of silverware since the League Cup 2008.

There was a spark of hope that this miserable period could end this season, because Spurs took a 1-0 lead in their Carabao Cup semi-final second stage with Liverpool.

But although he was so close to a trip to Wembley, Tottenham was helpless against the Reds in the decisive stage of the draw, succumbed to a 4-0 defeat after a performance that was not missing real cohesion or conviction.
