Rio Ferdinand has revealed his conviction that Manchester United is able to win only one team in their remaining 13 games of the Premier League season.
The former Center Back has expressed the fear of a potential relegation to the championship after the Red Devils had suffered a disappointing game on Sunday in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The men of Ruben Amorim fell to 15th place in the Premier League table after James Maddison scored the only goal in the 1-0 defeat of United against Spurs, who also underwent a challenging campaign.
With 29 points after 25 games and 31 points behind leaders Liverpool, the Red Devils are now only two places above the relegation zone, which are in front of West Ham and Wolves.
In a podcast on his YouTube channel, however, Ferdinand shared his concerns about the potential for a surprising decrease in the championship.
He said: “Manchester United is absolutely struggling at the moment. Only wolves and west ham separate my club from relegation. Do you realize that we are so close?
“Someone said we need 11 points to just stay up and I start thinking that way. I have the fixed list here and I look at the game and I am serious here. Go through.
'Everton Away, Ipswich at home, Arsenal, Forest Away, Man City, Newcastle Away, Wolves, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Leicester.
The nervousness of Ferdinand comes after United has passed their 12th defeat in the Premier League this season.
Eight of these losses took place under new manager Ruben Amorim, who came to the English side in November 2024.
'The only place where I may see something – and I don't even say a victory – is Leicester. We have already hit a few times this season a few times, so we have their number, “added Ferdinand.
'Normally you look at the list of luminaire and you can see where the points come from.
'We have just looked at the list of luminaire and I see no outright victories, I am not looking forward to thinking that there are three points here and there are three points there. That's the problem. '
After the disastrous match against Spurs, Amorim revealed that he is worried about the placement of the team in the domestic league table, but not about his potential exit from Old Trafford.
The Portuguese were without 12 squadron players, but above all, he was without a large number of key figures in midfield, such as Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen.
The United Boss revealed that he should be particularly careful with the Danish football player after his heart attack in 2021.
The Portuguese were forced to drop team captain Bruno Fernandes to build a few with Casemiro, in the middle of their 3-4-3 formation.
However, colleague presenter and United Legend Gary Neville have suggested that it could take up to two years before the current team can fully adapt to the tactic of Amorim.
He said: 'How quickly can Amorim and the United recruitment team come to a point where they can adjust this team to a 3-4-3 team?
'It will be at least two to three transfer windows because of the investment that has been made and we know clubs on the outskirts of PSR.
'They have lost £ 300 million in the last three years, so there is a real struggle and a real fight to be able to spend the money they need on the transfer market. There has been a lot of waste in recent years. '
Despite the completion of the signing of Patrick Dorgu for £ 29.4 million from Lecce during the January transfer window, United remains in a worrying financial situation.
Several players have left the side in the winter, such as Marcus Rashford and Antony, both about loan movements to Aston Villa and Real Betis respectively.
Earlier, the Portuguese boss admitted that United Players should sell to do new acquisitions during the coming summer transfer window.
In this case, the Red Devils can consider selling younger Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, who have previously attracted strong interest from Chelsea and Napoli.
Both academic products can again be objectives due to the fact that they are worth 100 percent profit under PSR rules.
