Newcastle United has drawn their attention on the Spanish market in recent years and they seem close to getting the signing of a talented young person – that is Antonio Cordero.
Cordero, who is out of contract with Malaga at the end of the season, has been very much in demand in recent months. Barcelona and Real Madrid are both credited for being interested in the talented 18-year-old winger, while Arsenal recently became a member of the race next to Premier League-rival Newcastle.
Despite all this interest, Newcastle seem to be the big favorites to land Cordero on a free transfer. According to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey (via caughtside), the Magpies believe that an agreement is almost being done.
“Newcastle is strongly thinking that there is almost a deal. But it is clear that you cannot definitively say until he keeps that black -white shirt up.
“He is a clear prospect. Newcastle does not bring him in to immediately become a player in the first team. You never know how quickly these players can progress. Does he stay with the U21s or do they borrow him? Of course they will assess all those options as soon as it arrives. “
Cordero made a name for himself this season in the Segunda and he has been one of the striking artists for Malaga, even though he is so young age. He will be a huge loss for the Andalusians when he goes, especially because they do not receive transfer costs as part of the operation.
For the Newcastle perspective, it is a very exciting deal if they can bring Cordero to the club. He may not be immediately eligible for the first team, but he will not be far away in the next 12 months. The case remains open for now, but the Premier League side will hope that it will be closed as quickly as possible.
