Diogo Dalot praises the immediate impact made by Ruben Amorim
Diogo Dalot has praised the immediate impact of 'big personality' Ruben Amorim and claims the new boss is exactly what Manchester United need to get back to the top.
Amorim got his first taste of English football on Sunday at Ipswich Town, where the new-look United were held to a 1-1 draw in a 3-4-3 system.
Despite another Premier League game without a win this season, Dalot left Portman Road optimistic about the future in Amorim's view.
“It went very well,” Dalot said.
'He made an immediate impression, in terms of his philosophy and the way he wants us to play.
'It fits the club's standards. High intensity football and hard work for the team. We just have to put it into practice now.'
United made a dream start by taking the lead after 81 seconds through Marcus Rashford, only to go ahead and fail to build on it as Amorim admitted his players were 'thinking too much' and were 'afraid' of making mistakes with so much new information. on board.
'He's really demanding. He is exactly what we need for this type of club,” Dalot added.
'That's the standard the club should have, demanding people to be really professional and work hard for the team. That is the clear message he gives us every day.
'[He’s] really clear. Like I said, we have to give him and his staff credit for all the information they gave us.
'It was very clear to us and of course we will now do some more training and competitions to put this into practice.'
Operating as a left wing-back, Dalot found himself in regular dialogue with his new head coach as he tried to shake off old habits picked up under predecessor Erik ten Hag, which saw him drift towards a midfield role in possession.
“Sprint back and work really hard,” Dalot said when asked what the message was for Amorim players and his staff.
'Give an option [to team-mates] and don't be afraid to have the ball.
'The message he gave to everyone was clear: he wants us to have more control over the matches. And that's what we want to do.'
Attention now turns to Amorim's unveiling at Old Trafford on Thursday evening in Europa League action when they take on Bodø/Glimt.
Manchester United are currently 15th in the Europa League after one win from their first four games and that holds great significance on Thursday evening as they host a side that sits ahead of them in 12th.
