Arsenal has to crush the Premier League transfer record to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle this summer.
Isak, 25, is supposed to be the dream goal of Arsenal prior to the summer transfer window, with Gunners -Baas Mikel Arteta who would like to sign a new striker. The Swede is in sparkling form this season and scored 19 goals in all competitions, including strikes against Arsenal in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup.
That has given Arteta a look at first how deadly Isak can be, but Newcastle does not let him go cheaply. The current Premier League transfer record is £ 115 million, the Fee Chelsea has spoken to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton in 2023, with the £ 105 million that Arsenal paid for Declan Rice that same summer.
But everyone who is interested in the tone Hitman will have to break that record – where Newcastle is not interested in negotiating something shy of £ 150 million. Even a figure that £ 150 million may not be enough – especially if Newcastle is back in the Champions League in the next term.
Further dent Arsenal's chances of signing Isak is that they have worked on a freshly sought after real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, whose release clause £ 51 million is worth. The couple would therefore cost at least £ 200 million – possibly all the summer budget of the Gunners.
Newcastle has disabled £ 63 million to sign Isak in 2022 and he scores at least 20 league goals in back-to-back seasons for the Magpies on course score. The shape of the 25-year-old has not only attracted an interest of Arsenal, because Liverpool and Barcelona have also been associated with signing him.
Liverpool will try to sign an upgrade on the current No. 9 Darwin Nunez while Barca has their eyes open for a long -term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who will be 37 in August. In the meantime, Newcastle wants Isak to sign a new and improved contract, although its existing deal will only expire in 2028.
Mapgies -Baas Eddie Howe is forced to answer questions about the future of the Sweden of the Sweden, and last week he claimed that he would not exchange Isak for No. 9 in the world. “We have to try to keep our best players,” explained Howe.
“That is crucial for our success in the short term and our success in the long term. Here as manager of the football club are, we have to keep the group together and we have to add the other way. We have not added in a long time , not in different transfer windows for the reasons we have discussed before.
“But we have to help the team ahead and we have to keep our best players to do it.”
