Chelsea is determined to lead the chase for much sought after English defender Marc Guehi this summer.
Crystal Palace made it clear that they were determined not to sell in January despite interest from Chelsea and a late bid from Tottenham. Newcastle were the great vroords last summer and had rejected various bids with Palace that demanded £ 70 million and it is still to see if they will return.
But despite the strong interest, Chelsea are huge admirers and they want to return their former graduate Academy who is now an established England international.
Chelsea knows that there will be a strong interest again this summer, because Guehi will only have 12 months left about his current deal. But Bluesbaas Enzo Maresca assesses him high and sees him as the kind of defensive leader to strengthen his team and dressing room.
The wage structure of Chelsea deal in the longer term with a lower basic wage-it sometimes made it difficult to compete, but Guehi is a player at the top of their list and would not want to see him go to a rival.
In 2021 they sold Guehi to Paleis for £ 18 million and insert a clause in the deal to enable them to match an offer from another club. There is also a sold -out clause that goes up to 20 percent, but that would be complicated by the fact that it would be that Chelsea returns their former player.
Guehi's reputation has grown since last summer when his calmness, leadership and quality on the ball have made him one of the most sought after defenders in the Premier League.
There is no shortage of interest if he is available, but Chelsea can hold a lead, although going back for a player they have sold, will always create a debate if they have to pay three times as much to get him back.
Speaking of Guehi in January before Chelsea chose to remember Trevoh Chalobah from his loan in Palace, said Maresca: “The only thing I can say is that Marc Guehi is a palace player. I certainly love Marc, but he is not our player. But I also love the central defenders we have.
“I also like different types of central defenders in Italy, Spain and France, but that does not mean that we are going to buy a player. It is a normal situation that I think if you have wounded central defenders that speculation is there. On the There is nothing the same time. “
Guehi has made 141 performances for Palace since he joined the Chelsea club four years ago. He served as a captain under the management of Oliver Glasner and is a crucial player for the Eagles, who is 13th in the Premier League table.
