Godwill Kukonki: MU’s towering 16-year-old defender as he travels in first squad
TEEN sensation Godwill Kukonki looks destined for a future in the Manchester United first team after Ruben Amorim named him in his first traveling squad.
In the Portuguese coach's first match in charge of the club, his troops take on Ipswich Town at Portman Road this afternoon.
United fans around the world are wondering what Amorim's first starting XI will look like.
And some are shocked by Amorim's decision to bring teenager Kukonki, even if it was just to enjoy the first-team experience without a place on the bench.
But who is the teenager currently being talked about by the Old Trafford faithful?
SunSport are ready to shed some light on the star, who many believe has a bright future at the club.
How long has Kukonki been playing for Manchester United?
Born in Stoke On Trent, the 16-year-old defender joined United at the age of five after being discovered by their scouts.
He has been a constant presence in the club's youth teams over the years and has stood out in recent times for his incredible status.
Standing a whopping 6 feet tall, Kukonki shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to his growth.
His incredible build has served him well over the years, but it hasn't been the only reason for his success.
How has Kukonki fared so far?
The left-sided centre-back has shown defensive prowess far beyond his years during his time at the club.
And they have been instrumental in his recent move to the club's Under-18 squad.
Kukonki has risen to the challenge well this season and has shown great ability both on and off the ball as well as off the ball.
His ability to play from the back in particular has been repeatedly praised.
Kukonki has made nine appearances for United Under-18s so far this season, scoring one goal and picking up one assist.
And his impressive performances must have been passed on to Amorim, who made the brave decision to include him in today's matchday squad.
What did Kukonki say?
It is not surprising that Kukonki has not yet conducted any interviews.
However, he has reflected on his short career at United on his Instagram account, which contains just four posts.
At the end of last month, he shared a series of photos from his debut in the UEFA Youth League against Lithuanian side ZK Zalgiris.
Along with an emoji of praying hands, he wrote #UYL debut.”
He will no doubt post a similar photo if and when he makes his first-team debut.
