Emery seeks Villa improvements after Garcia error in Liverpool draw

Unai Emery insisted that Aston Villa would continue to work to improve, despite holding Premier League leaders Liverpool to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday.

Youri Tielemans and the Quickfire goals of Ollie Watkins have canceled the 29th minute of Mohamed Salah at the end of the first half in Villa Park, but the hosts could not maintain after the break.

Liverpool recovered parity just after the hour when the strike of Trent Alexander-Arnold was deflated from the edge of the box over Emiliano Martinez, after a touch by Tyrone Mings.

Darwin Nunez missed a glorious opportunity to win the game in front of Arne Slot, in which Morgan Rogers and Donyell Malen also came close to all three points.

But after he had played his way to the game after a strong start of Liverpool, Emery's side led the Reds after the sloppy pass of Andres Garcia was punished by Salah.

Indeed, in the Premier League this season, only Southampton (17) made more mistakes that have led to a goal than Villa (12), something Emery said he should change ahead.

“I see everything and I try to get the best,” Emery told TNT Sports shortly after the game.

“We take some risks and avoid it often. Nowadays they scored, but we do not change and will work to improve.”

The result leaves Villa ninth in the top flight, five points on drift of the top four, prior to the welcome of Chelsea in the West Midlands this weekend.

It was the fourth draw of the Villans in their last six Premier League matches, although their latest stalemate saw them able to withstand a wave of pressure from the leaders.

They ended the game with an expected goals (XG) in total only 0.73 of their nine shots compared to Liverpool's 2.44 of their 17 attempts to the purpose of Martinez.

“I think it's fair, the result for both teams,” Emery told BBC match of the day. “We competed very well, but we are not happy with just one result such as Liverpool. We want to defeat them and try to improve and get better.

“They play well and are fantastic. It is another step forward. We tried to compete in our own style and they played well.

“We give more goals than normal, and we have to correct it and work on it. We want to win and when we win – despite admitting goals – it doesn't matter. But if we don't win, we have to give it fewer goals .

“We compete very well with our style. We also had to deal with their threat when they competed. Today I think the result was fair and I think it was a good result after how we played.”
