Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr gets last laugh on Man City banner as he aims clear dig

Vinicius JR seems to have been back at Manchester City fans after Real Madrid dumped them out of the Champions League on Wednesday.

City fans took a excavation at Vinicius prior to the first stage in the Etihad last week, with a banner who mocked the winger after he had missed the Ballon d'Or from 2024. Madrid Boycotte therefore showed the entire ceremony and city fans an image of Rodri who kissed the trophy, along with the words “stop crying”.

Vinicius, however, eventually had the last smile, with Los Blancos City hit from Europe after they have beaten them 6-3 in the play-offs. Vinicius put two assists in the first stage and now seems to have responded to the banner on social media, just write: “Okay okay !!!!!!!” Together with a crying emoji.

Kylian Mbappe, however, was the star of the show when he scored a hat trick in the second stage and Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti believes that the attacker can enjoy the same levels of success that Cristiano Ronaldo did in the club.

“He has the quality to reach the level of Cristiano,” said Ancelotti. “He has to work. Cristiano set the bar very high. He has now started his career in this club. I think with his quality and the excitement he has about playing here, he can reach the level of Cristiano, but it will not easy.

And Mbappe has said that he hopes to “define an era” in Madrid, after he joined the club last summer with a free transfer by Paris Saint-Germain. “I didn't want to come here to play badly,” said Mbappe after the game.

“Fulfilling my dream was one thing, but I wanted to play well, I wanted to define an era, write history at Real Madrid. I had to play with personality. The most important thing is to win trophies.

“I have scored many goals in my career, but let's see if it is all for nothing, because we have not always won trophies. If I score many goals and win trophies, I draw in blood for that.”

They are now ready to play in the last-16, whether Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen and Mbappe has revealed that he hopes that they will be pulled against their local rivals. “To be honest, I'd rather we be pulled against Athleti,” he admitted.

“She and Bayer are two great clubs and it would be difficult anyway. But in the next round it would be much better for us if we didn't have to travel – we travel so much!”
