Tavernier: Bournemouth must take things one game at a time in top-four chase

Marcus Tavernier says that neither he nor his teammates from Bournemouth will lead himself in their pursuit of a spot from Champions League.

The wing player scored the third goal of the Cherries in their 3-1 victory over Southampton last weekend, leaving them in fifth place and one point behind the fourth placed Manchester City.

They will overtake City with a victory over Wolves on Saturday, albeit only temporarily, where Pep Guardiola is not opposed to Liverpool until Sunday.

But despite their strong position, Tavernier suggested that complacency will not be a problem among the team.

“You probably always get these answers, but we take every game at the same time,” he said. “But we see the table and we'll see what's at stake.

“But we can't get ourselves ahead. We know that if you do that, things can run the other way very quickly. So we just have to concentrate on ourselves and think of good points every week.”

Wolves Head Coach Vorror Pereira will now be looking for more of the same side, after their improved second half performance in their 2-1 defeat against Liverpool.

Despite the fact that he went two goals in the first half, Wolves imposed a deserving display after the break at Anfield, scored a goal and were much more effective when printing. That is something that Pereira wants his side to repeat in the future.

“Even the best players in the world – if you press it, they make mistakes,” he said.

“This is what we have to do in the future – not in one half, but in two halves. Take the risks, play with courage and in our way of playing, and then I don't care about the result.

“I don't care about the team on the other hand – if it's Liverpool or Chelsea – I just concentrate on my team.”
